Bhanjanagar: One person was killed and at least five others sustained critical injury after two bikes crashed head-on in Gallery village under Bhanjanagar police limits in Ganjam district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Tukuna Pradhan of Pankala village.
The mishap took place while the victims were on their way to visit ‘Meru Jatra’, the final rituals of the festival of penance ‘Danda Nata’ which concluded in the Gallery village late last night. The rider of one of the speeding bike failed to detect the other bike coming from the opposite direction and ended up smacking into it.
While Tukuna died on the spot, the injured were rushed to Bhanjanagar Sub Divisional Hospital in critical condition later in the day, where their condition remains to be critical.
Police rushed the body for postmortem after reaching the spot and seized the mangled bikes.
