1 dead, 24 hurt in separate road mishaps in Odisha

Bargarh/Angul: At least one person was killed and 24 others sustained injuries in separate road mishaps which took place in the state since this morning.

In the first instance, a man was killed and 16 others turned critical after a pick-up van (OD 03 E 2564) carrying them hit the protection wall of a bridge near Ghensa under Melchhamunda police limits in Bargarh district early in the morning.

The injured were immediately rushed to Bargarh DHH by Melchhamunda Police, which reached the spot and seized the mangled van along with the body.

The deceased has been identified as Kalasi Sunani.

All the victims are residents of Dangarpada village under Lakhana Police Station area of Nuapara district and were on their way to Deogarh District Forest Range Office for a construction work when the mishap took place, said police.

Later in the morning, a private bus carrying at least 25 passengers from Nuapada to Bhubaneswar overturned due to driver’s negligence at Tubey village under Jarpada Police limits in Angul district. At least eight passengers sustained injury in the mishap.

The injured have been admitted to Angul DHH by police.
