Jagatsinghpur: Tension ran high at Sidhal village under Tirtol police limits in the district last night after unidentified dacoits shot one person to death and left two others critical during a robbery bid.
The deceased has been identified as Antaryami Khuntia.
The incident took place late in the night while all the family members of Antaryami were preparing to go to bed after dinner. A group of armed dacoits barged into the house and attacked them with a motive of loot. As Antaryami along with his brother and another family member tried to resist the looters, they took out guns and opened fire at them. Later on they fled the spot.
A critically injured Antaryami was rushed to SCB Medical in Cuttack by family members later in the night where doctors declared him brought dead. Two others who also received bullet injuries and were rushed to the hospital are under treatment. Their condition is stated to be critical.
Tirtol Police have reached the spot and started investigation.
The incident has left residents in the village in a state of panic.
