Dhenkanal: One person died and two others sustained critical injuries at Pitiri Square under Parjang police limits in the district on Friday after a bike carrying them lost control and hit a road side tree.
The deceased has been identified as Jambeshwar Nayak of Kurundi in Angul district.
The mishap took place early in the morning while Jambeshwar was heading towards Talcher with two of his aunties who were riding pillion, on a bike. Near Pitiri Square in a bid to give a passage to a coal-laden truck coming from opposite direction, Jambeshwar lost control over his vehicle and hit a road side tree. While Jameshwar died on the spot, his aunties sustained critical injury in the accident.
The injured were rushed to the Talcher Sub Divisional Hospital by some locals later on.
While the driver of the truck managed to drive away from the spot following the accident, angry locals staged a blockade on NH 149 demanding compensation to the kin of the deceased.
Police reached the spot and seized the mangled bike.
