Bargarh: In a bid to press its demand for a ban on liquor in Bargarh’s Khuntpali gram panchayat, a couple has begun a walk from Bargarh to Naveen Niwas in Bhubaneswar (about 400kms). The couple Goura Chandra Bhosagar and Sibani are also carrying their two-year old daughter Lejinarani with them.

Sibani, the former Naib Sarpanch of her gram panchayat, has been opposing the sale of liquor in her village. Sibani and her husband, a daily wage labourer, had also submitted a memorandum to the District Collector in this regard.

However, no action was initiated, and instead a raid was conducted on their house last week. The couple has now decided to place their demand before Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The couple and their daughter started their journey on foot on Wednesday from Gandhi Chowk in Bargarh town and are expected to reach Bhubaneswar within 10 days.
