Vidya Balan To Play Former PM Indira Gandhi In A Web Series

Mumbai: Actress Vidya Balan will soon be seen potraying the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in a web series. This was informed by the actor herself in an interview with a leading daily. Vidya also revealed that the web series will be a cinematic adaptation of Sagarika Ghose’s famous book ‘Indira: India’s Most Powerful Minister’.

It was ealier reported that the book might either be made into a web series or a full-fledged feature film. Vidya, who is also a part of the NTR Biopic, stated that after much brainstorming, the makers zeroed in for the former as the book had too much of content and a feature film will not do justice to it. There is also a possibility that the show might have successive seasons to showcase the entire content of the book.

The series will be produced by Ronnie Screwvala. The project is in pre-production stage as makers are in the process of assembling the teams. Vidya has also revealed that the makers will be not be seeking the permission of the Gandhis before kickstarting the project as they already possess the book’s rights.

Notably, Vidya Balan was last seen in Suresh Triveni’s Tumhari Sulu in 2017 where she played a housewife-turned-RJ. NDTV listed her performance in the film as the best by a Hindi film actress that year and actress won her fifth Screen Award and fourth Filmfare Award for Best Actress. The 39-year-old actor is currently shooting for the NTR Biopic in which she essays the rold of NTR’s wife Basavatarakam. Vidya stated that she is very excited for the movie which would be her first full-fledged Telugu film.
