Rani Mukerji Hoists Tricolour At The Indian Film Festival Of Melbourne

Melbourne: Actress Rani Mukerji on Saturday inaugurated the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne by hoisting the Indian tricolour at the Federation Square in Melbourne. Dressed in a white-pink floral saree and pearl jewellery along with a vintage white shawl, the actress looked resplendent at the event. She unfurled the flag alongside Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and IFFM director Mitu Lange while many Indian and Australian fans in the crowd cheered on.

The award-winning actor, who rarely makes public appearances expressed gratitude at being able to hoist the Indian flag at the International film festival. She said that it is a matter of pride for her to hoist the national flag in Australia, miles away from India. Rani further thanked the Victorian Government for bestowing her with the honour to inaugurate the festival.

Rani expressed heartfelt joy for representing India and the entire film fraternity. She also thanked Mitu Bhowmich Lange, the director of the festival, for inviting her to the IFFM which is a platform where films from various cultures come under one roof.

The 40-year-old actress was last seen in ‘Hitchki’ where she played a woman suffering from a strange speech disorder. Rani’s daughter Adira Chopra has also accompanied her mother to Melbourne. Besides her, other Bollywood personalities like Rajkumar Hirani, Richa Chadha, Ali Fazal, Malaika Arora, Mrunal Thakur, and Vicky Kaushal attended the inauguration ceremony on Saturday.

Notably, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne will be held from August 10 to August 22 in Melbourne, Australia. It will screen over 60 films from all across India and the subcontinent in over 22 languages.
