Mumbai: The journey of former badminton player and chief national coach of the Indian Badminton team Pullela Gopichand will soon be translated into the  silver screen on a biopic, informed Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios on Thursday.

The announcement coincides with Gopichand’s 44th birthday.

Singh said Gopichand’s life is an inspirational story for all, particularly for the sportspersons.

“It’s a proud moment for us to present the incredible story of Pullela Gopichand. It is the story of a man who not only was an outstanding player but went onto coach the new generation of players and has changed the face of badminton sport and has taken it to its current heights,” Singh said.

Significantly, biopics on students from Gopichand’s badminton academy in Hyderabad – Saina Nehwal and P V Sindhu – are already in works.

Born on 16 November 1973 to Pullela Subash Chandra and Subbaravamma in Andhra Pradesh, Gopichand won the All England Open Badminton Championships in 2001. He received the Arjuna Award in 1999, the Dronacharya Award in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan in 2014.

The ace shuttler founded the Gopichand Badminton Academy in 2008 that produced several badminton players including Saina Nehwal, P. V. Sindhu, Parupalli Kashyap, Srikanth Kidambi among others.
