Mumbai: The posters of ‘Namaste England’ starring Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra were released recently. Both the stars had revealed the first look poster on their respective Instagram handles. While fans were happy to see the pairing of Arjun and Parineeti return together after 6 years of Ishaqzaade, the movie soon landed in controversy over its poster.

It was noticed that in the poster, the Chinese-occupied Aksai Chin region of Jammu and Kashmir was not shown as a part of India. As per law, distortion or misrepresentation of the Indian Map is a violation of the Nation Map Policy 2005. Furthermore, as per the Criminal Law Amendment Act 1961, misrepresentation or distortion of India’s territorial boundary is a punishable offence and may lead to imprisonment, fine or both.

Notably, Aksai Chin has been a bone of contention between India and China ever since the 1962 war. It is a disputed border area between China and India, administered by the former as part of Hotan County, which lies in the southwestern part of Hotan Prefecture of Xinjiang Autonomous Region. The territory is also claimed by India as a part of the Ladakh region of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

In 1962, China and India fought a brief war in Aksai Chin and Arunachal Pradesh, but in 1993 and 1996, the two countries signed agreements to respect the Line of Actual Control.

‘Namaste England’ stars Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra in lead roles. Directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, it is a sequel to Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif’s 2007 film ‘Namaste London’ and is slated to release on October 19.
