Rengali dam opens 8 sluice gates to release flood water

Rengali damAngul: To keep the water level inside the reservoir under manageable limits after continuous rainfall in the upper catchment areas of Riiver Brahmani, Rengali dam authorities opened four more sluice gates on Thursday taking the total number of gates opened in the barrage to eight. Four sluice gates had been opened on Wendnesday.

The opening of gates was done in strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and people in the downstream were informed sufficiently in advance.

As per sources in Rengali Flood Control Cell, 5300 cusecs of water is being released through eight gates with an inflow of 7030 cusecs per second into the dam. Sluice gate no. 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11,12 and 13 have been kept open for the purpose.

Rengali dam built on river Brahmani has a capacity to hold a water level of 123.5 meter at Full Reservoir Level (FRL) with the current level of flood water remaining at 113.75 meter.
