Bargarh: Farmers of at least 20 villages of Bheden block in the district staged a 12-hour road blockade at Mahulipali Square alleging discrepancy in pest attack review report prepared by Special Revenue Commissioner (SRC) and demanded fulfillment of a five point charter of demand.
The five point charter of demands of the protesters include complete agricultural loan waiver along with disbursement of claim payments under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (PMFBY).
Protesters are also demanding that the Block administration officials including Revenue Inspector (RI) and Block Agriculture Officers (BAO) should immediately visit the farmlands which have suffered pest attack to understand the gravity of the situation. They also wanted a dialogue with Bargarh Collector Khagendra Kumar Padhi on the crop loss and pest attack issue.
Sambalpur-Sonepur communication line was completely cut-off due to the road blockade and hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both the sides of the road.
The road blockade was underway and no officials of district administration have reached the spot till this repot was being filed.
