Cowherd drowns in Gajapati of Odisha

Paralakhemundi: A cowherd met watery grave in Dalimbapur village under Paralakhemundi police limits in Gajapati district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as R. Nilakantha.

Nilakantha who left home with a herd of cow to graze them at a pasture located near the Mahendratanaya River slipped into the water due to some reason and drowned. As he did not return home till late in the evening, family members reported the incident to the police after conducting a frantic search in the village.

A joint team of Paralakhemundi Police and fire personnel fished out the victim’s body from the river at 10 AM this morning, after a herculean effort of two hours.

Police have lodged a case of unnatural death in the incident and rushed the body for postmortem to Gajapati DHH.
