Mohana: In an incident pointing at the laxity in basic facilities in government Model Schools in the state, a Class VI student died after he jumped off a passenger jeep in Gundima village of Mohana block in the Gajapati district this morning. The boy was on his way to school boarding a private passenger vehicle.
The deceased has been identified as Augustin Behera (11), student of Gundima Model School.
The incident took place today morning when Augustin boarded a Commander Jeep from his village Katara to reach Gundima Model School along with several other passengers, but the driver of the vehicle did not stop before his school despite repeated request from him.
Apparently, Augustin jumped off the jeep. He sustained critical injury in the attempt and was rushed to the Mohana Community Health Centre (CHC) by some locals where doctors declared him brought dead.
Driver of the jeep fled the spot leaving the jeep behind following the incident.
Family members of the boy and residents from Katara village protested at the CHC and demanded compensation. They claimed that such type of incidents are happening regularly due to the unavailability of hostels and school facilities at the Gundima Model School.
