Angul: One person was killed and another sustained critical injury after a passenger bus struck a bike from the front on Nalco-Talcher Road near Balaram Prasad village under Nalco police limits in the district on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Raju Nayak of Tenteloi village under Kukudanga panchayat.
The victim who worked in Bhushan plant was heading to office riding a bike with another person on the pillion seat, from his home this morning when the mishap took place. Driver of a speeding passenger bus namely ‘Laxmi’ coming from the opposite direction lost control over the wheels and dashed the vehicle against the victim’s bike head-on, in front of a dhaba at Balaram Prasad Square. The victim died on the spot and the pillion rider sustained critical injury.
The injured was later shifted to a nearby hospital by some locals.
Later on the angry locals attacked the bus and damaged it. They also staged a road blockade at the accident site demanding compensation to the kin of the victim.
Nalco police had reached the spot and was trying to pacify the mob, till this report was being filed.
