Badachana, Jan 12: The Jajpur district police on Sunday night arrested four truck looters and seized a stolen truck, an auto-rickshaw and two bikes from their possession.

The arrested have been identified as Pikan Das from Dhanamandal, Badal Dehury from Subhadrapur and Chhabindra Nayak and Sambhunath Nayak from Kaanrapur.

Giving details about the case to media on Monday, IIC of Badachana Police Station Umakanta Nayak said the police had come to know about a gang operating in Jajpur district in the course of investigation into the stealing of a truck in October last year. The gang used to steal the trucks and sell them in the neighbouring states after changing the numbers of the chassis and engine, besides the body colour.

“Police raided some areas in Jajpur district and arrested two persons and seized a stolen truck from their possession. During interrogation, the two arrested persons informed about the involvement of about 6-7 persons of Badachana area in the looting of trucks. On the basis of their information, police later arrested four persons,” Nayak informed.

He said the four arrested looters admitted to looting trucks from several areas under Jenapur, Derabis, Barang and Dhenkanal police station limits.

“Efforts are on to nab the remaining members of the gang,” the IIC added.
