Prez Poll: NDA’s Ramnath Kovind files nomination

KOVINDNew Delhi: NDA’s presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind on Friday filed his nomination papers in the Parliament House here at 11.45 am.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah, Chief Ministers of BJP ruled states, veteran BJP leader L.K. Advani, senior leaders of NDA and the leaders of some other regional parties supporting his candidature were present when Kovind filed his nomination papers.

Extending support to NDA’s nominee, senior BJD leader and Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Minister of Odisha Surjya Naran Patro was also present on the occasion.

The BJP led NDA commands the support of over fifty per cent of voters who will elect the next president. Regional parties such as the AIADMK, TRS, JD (U) and BJD have already announced their support to Kovind.

President of India is elected by an electoral college comprising elected members of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies. The election for the President is scheduled on July 17 and the counting of votes will take place on July 20.
