Bhubaneswar, March 31: State Assembly Speaker Niranjan Pujari on Friday adjourned the House till 3 pm as Oppositions created ruckus over Chikiti village minor gang rape case.

Demanding Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s statement in the House over the gang rape case, the BJP and Congress lawmakers stood up from their respective chairs and created uproar.

Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra alleged that the Chief Minister has turned into a mute spectator to the gang rape case only to protect his party men.

“Why the Speaker should run the House if the state government is not taking any action in spite of demanding a Crime Brach probe into the crime,” he questioned.

Unable to run the House, the Speaker adjourned it for the second time in the day till 3 pm.

According to reports, at least 10 persons including some of her cousins kidnapped a minor girl from her home at Patrapur village in Chikiti of Ganjam district on March 9.  They repeatedly raped her in a forest before releasing her on March 18 after giving her life threats.

It is alleged that the girl was raped as her father supported a particular political party while her cousins supported another party during the Panchayat election.
