Cartosat-2Sriharikotta: In a major development, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Friday launched the Earth observation satellite Cartosat-2 series weighing 712 kg and 30 co-passenger satellites with its rocket Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, here at 9.29 am.

ISRO said the 30 nano-satellites include 29 belonging to foreign customers from 14 countries and one domestic payload of a private educational institution.

The Cartosat-2 Series is a remote sensing satellite, containing sophisticated high resolution cameras with a mission life of five years. It will orbit the earth from 500 km above.

The data of Cartosat-2 Series satellites provide vital inputs for urban and rural planning, coastal land use regulation, road network monitoring and geographical information system applications, particularly at LoC.
