Heat wave grips Western Odisha; breaches 46 degree mark in Bolangir

Large parts of Odisha sizzled under a severe heat wave with temperatures shooting beyond 40 degrees Celsius at as many as 16 places in the State. Western Odisha, in particular, suffered the most with temperature in Bolangir rising to the season’s highest of 46.2 degrees and Hirakud only marginally behind at 45.8 degrees.

Sambalpur, Titlagarh and Sonepur registered temperatures of 45.7, 45.5 and 45 degrees respectively.

The temperature in Bhubaneswar stood at 40.2 degrees while Cuttack registered 40 degrees.

The heat wave condition is likely to continue for the next three, four days, director of the Bhubaneswar IMD centre Dr Sarat Sahu said.
