While Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik was quick to ban the red beacons atop VIP vehicles in the state with immediate effect as per the decision taken by the Union Cabinet and returned home without a ‘lal batti’ last evening, BJD MP Tathagata Satpathy slammed Modi Government’s decision, calling it as a ‘JOKE’.

Tathagata took the Twitter route to express his disapproval. “Decision to remove Red Beacon is a joke. If serious let’s see Govt remove all A to Z Category security”, he tweeted.

Batting strongly for removal of high security cover for VVIPs, Tathagata tweeted, “This will save tax payers’ millions. Couldn’t care less if all cars carry beacons”.

The BJD MP also took a dig at PM Modi, saying “Damodardass ji (Modi) wants to show he is anti-VIP culture. He should remove security first. Show the kindly ‘light’. Delhi knows, when Bangla PM visited, traffic was blocked for Damodardass ji. Similarly, metro gets emptied for PM’s fancy rides”.

Tathagata dared the Modi Govt to focus on real issued in the country instead of resorting to “fancy and cosmetic show”.

“When traffic blocking stops, Pilot & Follow cars discontinued, real VIP culture will start crumbling. Till then this a cosmetic show. Let us stop fooling people. India has had enough. What about education, health, Swachh Bharat cess money? Where is all that going?” he tweeted further.

BJD spokesperson Surjya Narayan Patro has called the remarks as his personal view, while CM Naveen Patnaik said there won’t be a problem if red beacons are removed atop VIP vehicles.
