The ongoing Bhasha Andolan in Odisha took a giant leap forward, as its Black Flag March completed one year today. The movement was launched under the leadership of Chairman Subhas Chandra Pattanayak, President Pradyumna Satpathy, Convener Pabitra Maharatha and founder member Tusarkanta Satapathy a year ago on April 13, 2016.

Bhasha Andolan is demanding penal provision in the Odisha Official Language Act to ensure proper implementation of Governance of Odisha in Odia. However, the government has turned a blind eye to their demands and not even invited them once for any formal talks.

The black flag march commences everyday at 5 PM outside the Assembly and culminates at Madhu Babu’s statue near Governor’s House square after paying floral tribute to the Grand Old Man of Odisha.

Bhasha Andolan has slammed the indifference and apathetic attitude of the state government and vowed to continue the agitation till it meets a logical conclusion. The movement has now spread to various parts of the state, including Berhampur, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Kandhamal, Jenapur, Niali etc.

Bhasha Andolan is organising a meeting-cum-seminar at the Institute of Engineers at 6 PM today to commemorate the occasion. Several intellectuals and people from various walks of life are expected to attend the meet.
