Srikant Jena seeks PM Modi’s intervention in Mahanadi Row

Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Srikant Jena has written a letter to PM Narendra Modi, seeking his intervention to prevent Chhattisgarh government from undertaking the construction work on barrages on Mahanadi River.

Mr. Jena expressed apprehensions that the barrages in Chhattisgarh would result in drying up of Odisha. He requested the PM to order a separate tribunal to resolve the water dispute between both States.

The Congress leader, who is trying his best to stay relevant in Odisha Politics, has also raised the issue of coal cess, saying the GOI is using the cess of Rs 8,000 earned from Odisha in developed states such as Gujarat and Maharashtra.
