Burla, Mar 27: Protesting the state government’s move to transfer doctors from the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), BJP’s Burla Nagar Unit observed a dawn to dusk bandh here on Monday.
According to sources, the activists of the saffron party supported by the Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) of VIMSAR observed the 12-hour bandh protesting the state governments move to transfer doctors from the hospital.
“Earlier, the state government had announced to appoint 52 doctors in the VIMSAR. However, later it cancelled its declaration. Besides, it decided to transfer as many as 12 doctors from the VIMSAR to government-run hospitals in Baripada and Koraput in the pretext of promotion,” said the sources.
Many vehicles were seen stranded on the road as the agitators staged road blockades at different places of the town. Shops and other business establishments also remained closed on account of the bandh.
The agitators threatened to intensify their protest if the state government fails to address their demands.
The Sambalpur district administration has deployed police forces at different places to avoid any untoward incident during the bandh.
