Vietnam’s Nguyen wins 10th KIIT International Chess title
Bhubaneswar: Vietnam’s Grand Master (GM) Nguyen Duc Hoa won the tile in Category-A of the 10th KIIT International Chess Festival, which concluded at KIIT Campus on Friday.
Seventh seeded Nguyen bagged the winner’s title with 8.5 points, while Odisha’s GM Debasish Das emerged runners up in the category scoring eight points.
The winner and runners up received trophies along with cash award of Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh respectively.
Indian GM Diptyan Ghose, Ukrainian GM Tukhaev Adam and Indian GM Grover Sahaj gathered eight points each and claimed the third, fourth and fifth place and received cash award of Rs 80,000, Rs 70,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively.
Altogether 251 players, including 15 GMs and 21 IMs, from 14 countries took part in the tournament.
VC of KIIT University P.P. Mathur, Registrar of KIIT University Sasmita Samanta, President of Orissa Chess Association Sekhar Chandra Sahu and others attended the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
