Girls’ Hostel for Tribal Students

The women among the Scheduled Tribe groups suffer from social barriers as STs, as females and then also as the least literate section of the society.

The Hostels for ST Girls is in operation since the 3rd Five Year Plan. It aims to make special provisions for the socio-economic development of the deprived sections of the society.

ST Girls’ Hostels aims to supplement a favorable study atmosphere free from the shackles of domestic shores. The girl students also not denied the opportunity to continue their study due to distance to school, parents’ financial affordability or any other social problem. These initiatives also encourage students to pursue their education career without dropping out.

The number of seats in a hostel is up to 100 but may exceed if there is a requirement of additional seats. The Hostels can be constructed for middle, secondary, college and university level of education and also for Vocational Training Centres.

The main objective of Girls Hostels is to retain the girl child in secondary school so that girl students are not denied the opportunity to continue their study due to distance to school, parents’ financial affordability and other connected societal factors. Another objective is to make Secondary and Senior Secondary education accessible to a larger number of girl students.
