Commonwealth Games 2018: Wrestlers Sushil Kumar, Rahul Aware win Gold Medals

Gold Coast: Indian wrestlers have been on a roll on Thursday as they bagged 2 Gold, 1 Silver and a Bronze medal on the opening day of wrestling competition in the 21st Commonwealth Games’ here in Australia.

Olympian Sushil Kumar won gold in men’s 76 kg freestyle after defeating South Africa’s Johannes Botha 10-0, while Rahul Aware bagged the gold in 57 kg beating Steven Takahashi of Canada 15-7.

This is Sushil’s third successive gold in the Commonwealth Games.

In the Women’s 53 kg category, Babita Phogat claimed the Silver after she lost to Canada’s Diana Weicker 2-5 in the Final. Kiran clinched the Bronze in the 76 kg division following a stunning 10-0 win over Katouskia Pariadhaven of Mauritius.

In Shooting, Tejaswini Sawant bagged Silver in the Women’s 50-metre Rifle Prone event. She finished second with a score of 618.9 points, behind Singapore’s Martina Veloso who created a Games record with a score of 621.

India’s latest medal tally rises to 29 with Gold – 14, Silver – 6 and Bronze – 9.
