The central team, under the leadership of Dr B.D. Athani, Special Director General of Health Services, arrived in the Steel City and held discussion with the authorities of the IGH. The team is expected to submit a report to the Union Health Ministry.
Although Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the city last year, had announced to upgrade the IGH to a super specialty hospital, the work is yet to begin. Rourkela MLA Dilip Ray had recently lamented that despite meeting the PM and Union Ministers several times, things did not move fast. An upset Ray hit out at the centre, saying he felt ashamed of the delay and apathy. The Chief Minister had also written a letter to the PM in this regard.
