Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday suspended all-rounder Yusuf Pathan for five months for failing a dope test. The retrospective suspension deemed to have started on 15th August, 2017 and end at 14th of this month.
“Pathan inadvertently ingested terbutaline, a prohibited substance in the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)’s Prohibited List of Substances, which can be commonly found in cough syrups,” the BCCI acting honorary secretary Amitabh Choudhary said in a statement.
The 35-year-old Baroda all-rounder had provided a urine sample as part of the BCCI’s anti-doping testing program during a domestic T20 competition in March last year.
In his response, Pathan, who had last played for India back in 2012, released a statement today saying that he was confident of being cleared of deliberate usage and vowed to be more careful in future.
