Sambalpur: To ensure that petrol pumps do their business in a transparent manner in the Handloom City, a joint team of Odisha Police, Civil Supplies and Weight & Measures department raided at least two filling stations on Tuesday.

The raid was conducted at Mudipada and Kulukhakani filling stations in the town after the department got specific information on their involvement in oil pilferage. During the raid officials examined the nozzles of the dispensing machines installed at both the filling stations and verified whether any electronic chip was being used in them or not.

Informing on the raid, an official of the Civil Supplies and Weight & Measures said the step was taken after growing number of complaints were received against the filling stations in last few months. It was being suspected that both these pumps were using China made hi-tech chips to manipulate the fuel metre.

The department had also raided as many as two petrol pumps in Cuttack in December last year in a similar fashion. During the raid the officials seized two nozzles and litres of adulterated oil. The raid had been conducted after the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas sought a report from Odisha Government on the issue.
